Wednesday Wellbeing Tip: The Circadian Rhythm is your bodys - TopicsExpress

Wednesday Wellbeing Tip: The Circadian Rhythm is your bodys natural sleep/wake cycle. We are all primally programmed to be more active during the daylight hours where, ideally, we will draw energy from the sun. Just as the birds awaken with a song so, we should wake up bright eyed and bushy tailed. Modern lifestyle dont make this easy and more and more people are developing sleep disorders. Studies tell us that the hours of sleep before midnight are more than twice as effective for physical recovery as those after. Even if you manage to get a good eight hours sleep between, say, 2 and 10 your hormones will not be as happy as someone who sleeps between 10 and 6. If you exercise regularly or have an active job you require more sleep than someone who leads a more sedentary lifestyle. Absorbing the suns rays and getting fresh air during the day is also a great way of priming your body for sleep. Artificial lighting and electronic stimulus are two of the worst things you can expose yourself to in the hours before bed.
