Wednesday night, July 24th at the… Sandbar & Grille in Buxton… We had 27 players including 5 new registrations and a returning player from last year. It was a double points event which means that any one that signed in and played got 50 points and the win was worth 150 total points. The winner got a $50 Visa Gift Card and second place got a $20 Sandbar & Grille gift card. Dave Ertle qualified for the HIPL 2013 Island Championship in November by accumulating 500 points this season which includes a couple final table appearances. Good job Turtle. The Donkey Shout Out goes to Herma de Gier. She got her donkey drink charm for being the first eliminated from the game. Yellow, I think it was. Justin Reinard started the high hand bids with a straight to the 7… and then he won a bounty hand… Well Jay Tolson, who was also a bounty for the night, beats Justin’s straight with a full house, Aces full of Kings. So to beat that, Justin played K-2, I don’t know what position he was in, but he hit Quad 2s, King high. Justin banked 2000 bonus chips for winning with the High Hand of the night. The final table was a split between new/visiting players and local/regulars at the finals. Jon Kilgore, one of the new registrations, visiting from Virginia, made it to the final table in his first game with us placing 8th. Eric Strickler, another of the new registrations, visiting from New York City, made it to the final table in his first game with us as well. He finished in 7th. Harold Blakney made it to his seventh final of the season, placed 6th and moved up four spots in the points to 16th. Alex Bonner made it to his league leading 22nd final table of the season and placed 5th. He moved up one spot to third in the points, passing Sandie Walker and leading her now by 24 points. Ben Kilgore, also visiting from VA placed 4th at his first final, in his first game with us. Ethan Kostich returns from last year, survived a bounty, making it to the final table in his first game of this season and placed 3rd. That left the finals heads up to be settled between Anna Crum and Eddie Ochs. Anna was at her fourth final of the season looking for her first win while Eddie was at his 20th final looking for his third win in three weeks. They are both already qualified for the championship in Nov. Anna was the big blind when I dealt her 7-9 off suit and Eddie K-9 suited diamonds in the small blind. Eddie called the blind with a raise of 10K. Anna called the 10K which put her all in. The flop was 2-Q-4, one diamond. Eddie is ahead with K-Q high and three diamonds Anna Q-9 high… she needs a 7… a nine is no good for her. The turn was the 5 of diamonds… Same as above except now a diamond gives Eddie a flush. The river was a 10… No help for any one. Eddie wins the hand with K-Q high and his third game of the season with a total chip count of 460K. He got the Visa and is the league point’s leader, opening up his lead over Jeremy Stafford to 80 points. It was his third win in the last seven games spanning 14 days. Anna place 2nd, got the Sandbar gift card, moved up five spots in the points to 26th out of 257 players and now leads Scott Baker by seven points. There were eight players in the Loser’s Lounge. Troy Ahrendt got bonus points for finishing second and Ryan McClay got bonus points and banked 2000 bonus chips for winning in the lounge.
