Wednesday will be an important day for our Security Sector - TopicsExpress

Wednesday will be an important day for our Security Sector Development (SSD) program. The ‘Etude sur les besoins de sécurité au Burundi’ is the 2nd report in a series which measures the security perception of the Burundian people. The follow-up is already planned in 2016, underlining the embassy’s wish to make this a biannual occurrence. The research aims to map the progress in the security sector development of Burundi. The current survey is based on more than 1900 interviews with people affected by, and involved in the security sector reforms. Under auspices of the Burundian Ombudsman, the research was conducted by the Centre of Conflict Prevention (CENAP), a Burundian NGO. The Dutch embassy provided the entire funds needed for the research. An important difference with the first report is that CENAP and the Ombudsman were completely responsible for the management and implementation of the research. The first report published in 2012, produced some encouraging results. We hope to see that, with our continued support, people’s safety perception has again increased. The report comes at a special moment as the international community notices more turmoil which can be linked to the elections of 2015. Later this week, the embassy will pose a short summary of the report, so stay tuned.
