Week 39 Tuesday Today’s Text and Thought of Encouragement: “Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29: 12, 13 N.I.V. “Wherever thou art, thou canst build an altar; it suffices that thou shouldst feel deeply the want of God’s help; even if thou canst not bend the knee…A woman (at her job) can rise her soul to God, and cry with her heart to Him; a merchant, at the market, or at the exchange, can examine himself, and pray with fervor. An artisan at (their) workshop can pray. God only requires that the heart should be warm and the desire honest.” Chrysostom “So let it be! The prayer that Christ enjoins- Live ever in our soul and on our tongue!” Sir Aubrey de Vere Today’s Study Text: “Mine eyes are ever toward the Lord.” Psalm 25: 15 K.J.V. EXPLORATION: “Strength for Each Day” “Invincible” – incapable of being conquered, over-run, or subjugated. What does the word “strength” mean to me? Do I feel protected by the “strength” of God? “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” Philippians 4: 13 Scofield Reference Bible INSPIRATION: “Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see.” II Kings 6: 17 K.J.V. When I was a young girl growing up, my parents had a set of children’s books with Bible stories they would read to my sister and me at bedtime. I always enjoyed the stories that contained drama and suspense. That’s why one of my favorite accounts is in the second book of Kings almost too easy to pass over and completely miss. This story chronicles the unhappiness of the King of Syria, an enemy of God, who was completely baffled because every time he attacked God’s people, they seemed to have been warned ahead of time. Trying desperately to find out who the spy was within his own ranks, the King of Syria called his servants together and asked, “Will ye not shew me which of us is for the King of Israel?” (2 Kings 6: 11, K.J.V.). One of his servants spoke up and said, “None, my Lord, O king.” Then he continued to inform the King of Syria that the troublemaker was God’s prophet, Elisha. So the wicked king came up with a scheme to trap Elisha. He sent spies out who located Elisha’s hiding place in Dothan. Once he found this man of God, the king sent horses, and chariots and a great host. They came at night and surrounded the city! Early in the morning when Elisha got up, it didn’t take him long to see the predicament he was in. And Elisha’s servant, scared to death for both of them, asked in desperation, “Alas, my master! How shall we do?” (2 Kings 6: 15, K.J.V.). I can still remember as a young girl, my dad’s melodic voice adding great emphasis to this part of the story. He would pretend he was Elisha talking as he read these words: “Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them…Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see” (2 Kings 6: 17, K.J.V.) The Bible records that God “opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha” (2 Kings 6: 17, K.J.V.) It was a Heavenly host sent to protect and strengthen the faith of God’s child. Now it is easy to say this is a story that took place many years ago, but for each of us God still promises a wall of protective strength surrounding us. In the beautiful words of the Psalmist David: “In the day when I cried thou answeredst me, and strengthenedest me with strength in my soul” (Psalm 138: 3, K.J.V.). The promise says to me that the same help that was sent to Elisha is sent to strengthen and uplift us, as well. As we learned yesterday, God’s strength may come to us in the support of friends God places at our sides at just the right moment. But other times, in answer to our call, God sends the power of Heaven to give us the Heavenly help we need. As I have read the prayer requests over the past several days, I have felt that at no time, are more of us in need of God’s strength in our lives. May this prayer of strength encourage you today. Robe of Light Prayer “I clothe myself in a robe of light, composed of the Love and the Power and the Strength of God; not only for my own protection, but so that all who come in contact with me may be drawn to God and healed.” AFFIRMATION: “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress (my strength): my God; in Him will I trust” Psalm 91: 1, 2 K.J.V.
