Week of Thanks: We are thankful for the legacy of family liberty - TopicsExpress

Week of Thanks: We are thankful for the legacy of family liberty established by the U.S. Supreme Court from Meyer v. Nebraska (1923) to Troxel v. Granville (2000). While the latest case brought this liberty into question by eroding the level of protection it receives, still there remains a long line of cases which declare that parents have a fundamental right to the care, custody, and control of their children. It is our hope to shore up this right through the Parental Rights Amendment, which would reestablish the level of protection that existed before Troxel. But we are grateful that we do not have to start from scratch; we as Americans have a legacy of parental rights that we can build on.
