Weekend Box Office Update Part 2, The Sophomores: Of last weeks seven debuts, two did something rare, while two had considerable drops, two had major increases. Both Alexander and Terrible Bad Day and The Judge experienced a rare thing with movies now-days both films had double their debuts. Alexander this weekend had a drop of 34% to gross $12 million for a 10-day run of 36.8 million dollars. Most important for Alexander was a very strong week last week, this week should see the film have an expected run 3-5 million pushing it over $40 million. The Judge having been panned by most critics still manage to double its $13 million debut for 10-day run of $26.8. The Judge dropped from number five to number seven with 39% drop from last weekend to gross $8 million. Like Alexander, The Judge experienced a strong week last week, add in the star power of Robert Downey, Jr the film still has the potential of breaking even with its $50 million budget. Although The Judge wont have as strong of finish as last week, the film is likely to gross 2-4 million in the Monday-Thursday Period. Two of last weeks debuts fell into major drops. The first was last weeks number two debut of Dracula Untold, falling 58% to land at number six with $9.8 million for a 10-day run of $40.7 million. Dracula Untold will likely have a modest week of $1-3 million, however another major drop will be expected with the debut of Ouija. Addicted fell 54% to slip out of the top ten with 3.4 million dollars. for a 10-day total of $12.7 million. While Kill The Messenger did double its debut its also fell 48% to have a $490,000 weekend for a 10-day total of $1.8 million. Kill The Messenger is still likely to get a wide release in the weeks to come. The comedy St. Vincent starring Bill Murray and Melissa McCarthy had 500% increase over last weekend to gross $685,000 on 68 screens for a 10-day run of $837,000. Indie Jazz Film Whiplash had 55% gain over last weekend to gross $211,000 this weekend for a 10-day total of $416,000. No total was given for Meet The Mormons the eighth of last weekends debuts.
