Weekly Encourager: “Use Your Manners!” If we are to be Jesus - TopicsExpress

Weekly Encourager: “Use Your Manners!” If we are to be Jesus Men and Jesus Women to others there are things about us that MUST be distinctive! How often did your mother or father say to you, “Use your manners!”? It seems that many within our society today could use a good course on manners! But before we go throwing stones…we need to take a few moments and check our own front doorstep-maybe see if we need to break out the broom? Do a little sweeping of our own at our own house before meddlin’? How do you do when it comes to manners? Common courtesies? We are a society that is ALWAYS in such a hurry! We are in such a hurry that often we fail to take just a couple of seconds to be courteous or to acknowledge a kind gesture. For many of us, the ever present cell phone is the distraction! How often do you go through the drive thru at your bank and the kind teller asks you, “How are you today?”, but you never even acknowledge her because you are talking to Big Dave about the game last night? Or how often do you walk into a convenience store, put your Yoo-Hoo and Whatchamacallit on the counter, pay and leave without ever acknowledging that there was a person behind the counter? Why? Once again, Mr. Samsung! There are some people in this world who do a wonderful job of displaying manners. And when they do, we almost always pay attention to them-maybe because it is such a dying art, but how often do we acknowledge their gestures? How often do you say “Thank-You” to the person who holds the door open for you? When is the last time that you complimented the little girl who lives across the street or the little boy who plays baseball with your son when they said, “Yes, m’am” or “No, sir” to you? My challenge to us this week is to be different-and use your manners! Hold the door open for people; give someone the closer parking spot, say, “Yes, sir”, “No, m’am”, “Please” and “thank-you!” Use good manners, but also get into a practice of acknowledging those around you who on a consistent basis do indeed practice what their mom’s and dad’s taught them! Colossians 3.17, “17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
