Weekly Trout report 28th – 3rd Nov This week’s catch ratio was 2.8 With colder evenings starting to take hold the fish have been seen far more in the margins, making bank fishing more productive. Having said this, boats are still getting the better catches. Fish are forming large shoals and are quite actively moving around the lake seemingly chasing fry. They are also spooked quite easy with the disturbance of fishing lines. I was watching an angler the other day who fished for 5 to 10 min then rested the water until he saw signs of fish again 10-20 mins later then had another fish, a method which worked for him on the day. Fish can be regularly seen bow waving through the water giving themselves away, making it possible for boat anglers to follow them around the lake. Lures seem to be the best option from the boat with, Black and green, Cats whisker, blobs and boobies all catching. Lures have also been used from the bank with nymphs and drys including spiders, buzzers, PTN, Silver Invictor and shuttlecocks. Best catches this week include: Gintautas 5lb Blue plus 5 more Blue’s and 4 RB’s on Viva from a Boat J Parker 3lb 8oz Brown plus 2 RB’s caught on Silver Invictor from the bank D MacQwillan 3lb 8oz Brown and a smaller one caught on a buzzer from the bank T Rudwin 4lb Rainbow and 2 blues on brown buzzer from a boat G Dew 7 Rainbows on Blobs and Boobies from the Boat G Curtis 3 RB’s and 2 Blue’s on PTN from a boat We are currently practicing Catch and Release. We ask all anglers to be extra careful when releasing fish and where possible keep the fish in the net in the water during this practice, this is compulsory from the boat where there is no reason why this cannot happen. We ask that all Blues and Browns are returned alive; if you specifically want to take one then they can be purchased additionally to the ticket price.
