Weekly Update 10/27 Hello Everyone! Due to the plethora of things to do in the coming months, I’m going to try and do one big post instead of inundating everyone with red notification flags. Sorry about the length, but do please try to read/review. Please message me if you have any questions. 11/1 Higashi Highschool Culture Festival 10:00-14:00. (Posted by David) __________ 11/2 Prefectural Speech competition ____________ 11/2 Umaji Yuzu Harvest Festival (ゆずはじまる祭り) 9:00-16:00 (posted by Sean) “There will be all manner of fun / delicious things to do all around the village, including but not limited to FREE GOKKUN (Yuzu juice that newbies might remember me rambling about at orientation); FREE ENTRY TO AN ONSEN WITH YUZU IN IT; DELICIOUS YUZU SUSHI and LIVE MUSIC” If anyone is offering rides, it looks like a number of people are looking to go, but are without transport. Please check the comments in the event posting. __________ 11/2 Day of the Dead Since Prefecture Speech Competition coincides with Dia de los Muertos. Maybe it’s a chance to make party in the city? I’ve had more than a couple of people bring up some sort of Mexican Halloween or Mexican food day. Might be a good opportunity. Does anyone want to host? I’ll bring some tortillas, some re-fried beans, salsa and a can of jalapenos. __________ 11/3 Okawa Beef Festival If you haven’t arranged your ride yet, get on it. Remember it’s nomihodai on a school night, and public transportation is limited. Please be responsible. __________ 11/3 Aki/Yasuda bus tour (Posted by Good Scott and Claire, sent out as an email) “is a really cool opportunity for ppl looking for something to do on 11/3 (Monday of a 3-day weekend). The SGG peeps are really friendly and will show you a good time!!” –Scott Parks __________ 11/9 Aki Bike Ride (Posted by Andrew) Casey has recently informed us you can’t make reservations in advance but there should still be no trouble as there are over 50 bikes to rent. Please let us know if want to be included on the Masala reservation. Joining the event is in no way a requirement to go, but it’ll help us get a better idea of numbers. ___________ 11/9 Japanese Cultural Experience (Posted by Chris) 10:00-12:00 “Greetings all! I come with news of MUSIC, specifically, 雅楽、 or, traditional Japanese court music. There will be volunteer translators from the University of Kochi, so you dont need to speak Japanese!” __________ 11/12-11/14 Museum Move Nights (Posted by Andrew) This is just a reminder that the movies are coming up. I’d be up for Rocky Horror Picture Show, but am a “virgin” to the whole experience. Does anyone want to go that knows what he or she is doing? Otherwise, The Wall, Tommy and Don’t Look Back look like a great time for a weekday. __________ 11/23 Ludwig van Beethoven Symphony number 5 (Posted by Denavious) __________ 11/29 Naoshima, Meet the World “Art Island” (posted by Callum and Andrew) For those whom have made it on the list, please message me and tell me if you received/replied to Callum’s email. He will drop you from the list on October 31st if you don’t do it, and there is a wait list itching to go. This being said, someone will inevitably forget to reply and we are down to the last person on the Kochi wait list. If you want to go, message me, there’s still a chance. If you want to go up either way, I strongly encourage it. Hang out with us in Takamatsu on Friday night, do your own thing on Saturday and take a trip to “Monkey Island” on Sunday. Yes, there is a monkey island. If you are in this category and can drive, we have lots of people looking for a ride. You’ll have a good chance of finding someone to share gas/petrol. __________ 12/6 All Shikoku Field Day (Posted by Broc Sewell, Takamatsu hosted) “Alright Kochi! Your companions to the north here to get you riled up for All-Shikoku Field Day on December 6th! A time for silly games, tons of fun, BBQ, and connecting with your fellow Shikokuan.
