Welcome back, Bakasana to Handstand!!! I havent been able to do - TopicsExpress

Welcome back, Bakasana to Handstand!!! I havent been able to do this since my abdominal surgery earlier this year. Mason the puppy gave me celebratory kisses as soon as in found my balance(were dog sitting). I havent focused on my asana practice this year. Difficult transitions and advanced inversions lost their charm a little bit - with so many earth shattering things happening this year Ive focused more on taking deep breaths and creating a steady ground than I have working on handstands and arm balances. My ego isnt on my mat and that feels really good. You can see it in my teaching too - I dont give a crap about what shapes and poses I teach as long as my students FEEL something. Were all searching for something real. This is the year for overcoming our fears, sitting with our pain and transcending the drama of our life situation. Handstands have very little to do with the evolution of our consciousness! They are amazing and fun and empowering but make sure you dont lose sight of WHY you practice. When youre on youre mat - do the work and do it right. Turn your phone off. Thats right - OFF. Instagram should not be a part of your practice (I feel like this is obvious but I get that question all the time)! I have never shared my actual practice, ever. Thats the most intimate part of my day and I dont want my phone anywhere near it! Snap pictures and demonstrate poses or sequences all you want (I do it all the time), but do it after youre finished with your practice. Dont mix the two. Separate social media from your yoga. Your mat is your place of calm. So move intuitively. Create space. Be there for YOU and make sure your breath is at the center of everything you do. Feel what you need to feel. Cry if you need to. Be kind to yourself. Let go. Enjoy the physical progress along the way and share it with the world if you want to but remember - its all a bonus. The real reward lies in your ability to find presence. Balance. Peace. Real yoga doesnt happen when you start advancing your arm balances but when you start advancing your ability to love unconditionally. So aim for love. Aim for love. In everything you do.
