Welcome to “The Truth Behind the Walls at Beaumont Animal Services. The goal of this page is to make raise awareness to the issues at Beaumont Animal Services Shelter. We are here to share those who do not get a chance to be exposed. Estimated 1 out of 50 dogs is networked and receive a chance to be exposed. Beaumont Animal Services euthanizes 3 times a week giving very little chance for these animal to find homes. The hours of operation are from 9am-4pm for adoptions which is absolutely impossible for those who work to visit the shelter and adopt. Employees are there on Saturdays, but the office is not open to the public. Volunteers and rescues have been willing for many years to help network and rescue, but have been denied the right. The city purchased a $600 camera for the shelter and we have yet to understand why it has not been used for networking. I believe that everyone understands the staff is busy and has multiple animals to attend to and care for, but why our rights to volunteer are and help network rejected when we are simply willing to take on the task. Many complaints have been made about the way the animals are handled so cameras have been requested to be placed around the facility, but budget isn’t available for these. Can someone please explain how budget can’t be available for this item, but it can be available for the supervisor to have 2 vehicles purchased by the city. Beaumont Animal Services requires that adopters have 7 days to provide proof of spay/neuter, but there are multiple animals previously adopted and proof has never been turned in. Why is this not being followed through with? Why is this okay? The most disturbing part of this all is there is a little thing called “The Grim Reaper” that is placed in the room where the dog are euthanized and a music playlist is also played at this time. Why is this okay? As if these animals are not scared enough and the fact that they are fixing to die is not sad enough you make a joke out of it? We are asking and have asked this for years 1. Use the camera for the reason it was purchased. 2. Stop spending city money on this like new vehicles spend it on the shelter. 3. Change your hours of operation to be a little more convenient to the public. You are there anyways why not be open. 4. Follow through with your contract that is signed by adopters. SPAY AND NEUTER PROOF NO EXCUSE! 5. Let the public know the truth about how many dogs are put to sleep instead of all the happy stories. Where are the numbers? Yes the happy stories are wonderful, but let’s work on raising awareness not hiding it. 6. All volunteers and rescues to help. They aren’t asking for money they are asking to volunteer their time to help save lives. 7. Most importantly get rid of the “GRIM REAPER” and stop making death a joke! There are numerous people out here willing to help and make a change. Why are we being denied the right to do so?????? " WE ARE THE VOICE FOR THOSE WHO CAN NOT SPEAK"
