Welcome to the Mount Mary fair that starts today. Hundreds of stalls have been put up over the weekend.Traffic police and volunteers have worked non stop to put up dividers. Trucks arriving with supplies for the fair. A tradition, which started way back in 1669. Everyone getting ready to welcome, perhaps a million people (not kidding) who will arrive at this small road called Mount Mary Road. The entire area is buzzing. You could feel the energy at midnight. Worshippers in the finest of sarees & dresses have started arriving, walking the last couple of miles, with big smiles.Teenagers & college students, looking rather cool; matronly ladies in their finest sarees; gentlemen in their Sunday finest; children in pretty dresses have started to converge to the doorstep of what is called the Basilica of Our Lady of the Mount, or Mount Mary Church. Some will wish for a house, some for cars, some for children, some for recovery from illness and injuries, some for building homes. Does not matter what is your reason to make this pilgrimage. We are all here. The Church itself is looking beautiful. Little children scurrying up and down selling candles and flowers. Amongst all this din, a shy kindly nun, stands with a little donation box for the Mount Mary Orphanage next door. Peace, prayers, love and the gift of kindness to everyone.
