Welcome to the PUMPWALL the pumpwall is located on Sunset Cliffs near Ocean Beach and Point Loma. It was built as a retaining wall in order to protect the unstable sandstone Cliffs from eroding. Since at least the 80s San Diego climbers have been coming out there and the spot has even been featured in climbing magazine a long time ago. It is certainly great to come out here for sunset, climb a bit and enjoy a fresh sea breeze! Getting pumped (which describes the condition of your forearms after excessive workout) is guaranteed at the pumpwall. Most footholds are small and that forces you to utilize your upper body more than you may wish - the result is, you get pumped quickly.
