Well, I had a rather disheartening afternoon. Ive been working on a front-lace kirtle for myself, in hopes of having it done enough to wear this coming Sunday. For the most part its been coming along beautifully, if a little too slow to be certain it would be done in time. (Really, before I got sick one week would have been more than enough time to finish it completely...) I had a hiccup a couple days ago when sewing in the sleeves. One of them I attached inside out, so the french seam was pointing the wrong way. Rather than take the time to pick the seam and re-pin, I just sewed it normal, trimmed it, and finished the allowance with a zig-zag stitch to prevent the linen from fraying. Lots of time saved, and no big deal for a garment Im making for myself. Today I finished assembling most of the body and put on the dress, immediately noticing that the shoulders seemed very, very tight and werent wanting to sit right. I go in the bathroom and it takes me a moment, and I realize that not only did I sew the sleeve on inside out, but backwards as well. Given that this is a medieval sleeve, with a very, very deep armhole in the back, this means the sleeve does not even remotely fit correctly, will have to be removed, and then re-attached. At this point this also involves pulling the side seam and the seam down the length of the sleeve. I should have just fixed the sleeve when I noticed the first half of the problem.... :(
