Well, I neednt have worried! We just got back from the book group and it was fun. Everyone disliked the book and most of them didnt even finish it!! We spent about 10 minutes talking about what we didnt like about it and then talked about other books and other stuff. There were 5 70-something women, Mary (the librarian), and us. They were really thrilled to have new people and beside themselves with glee that A MAN was in our midst. They were fun to listen to and chat with--I loved hearing about the way some of them went on the bus to Dublin to protest the possible withdrawal of medical cards. I was reminded why I love hanging around older women. I was also glad I went because Mary said, Oh, Im so glad you came! Thats lovely! She then told everyone how Id asked about the other book club and she told us about this one. I am just glad it went well--we tend to stick out, being blow-ins in a small community, so I am glad to be able to be genuinely enthusiastic about it. Next month is Wuthering Heights--one of the women in particular is facing this with some apprehension because she last read it in school and was less than thrilled about it. Next week is the 1st meeting of the new non-fiction book group. Be interesting to see how that one goes :-)
