Well I put on my uniform for the last time today and am hanging up my boots. Before I jettison from this profession I love, I wanted to thank a few people on the way, so bear with me, this will take a minute. First, to Fred Berkley Shirah, Teddy Taylor, Susan Thoman Green, Chuck Milan, and all the officers, NCOs and Soldiers of C/711th Signal Battalion. You were my first love in this journey and I can never thank you enough for your mentorship, guidance and flat-out fun we had!! Because of folks like you, I loved what I did. Fast forward to my time in the Regular Army--Patty Patty Solimene Collins, Darlene Godfrey Straub, and Tom Matchin, thank you for the opportunity to command. It was the best time of my life. We had a lot of great times! To the officers and NCOs of the 16th Signal Company (Ray Ray Nauta, Chris Arrington, Reno Sanchez, and so many others, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You were always reliable, professional and made me proud to lead the unit. Most importantly, to the Soldiers of the 16th Signal Company--YOU are the lifeblood of the unit and that of the Army. If I made any difference in just one of your lives, then I did my job. I hope that was good enough in your eyes. Ive been blessed with the best, most caring and understanding wife, Meredith. Im sorry I spent so much time away from home, but you always understood it was for a good cause--troops that I loved and continue to love. Mom, Im sorry for making you worry, but know it was doing something I love. I know Ive left several people out of this note, but if I listed everyone Id be writing until tomorrow night. I love you all!!
