Well, I was quite wrong about the Buckeyes. I really thought they would lose a couple games over the course of the year. When they lost to Virginia Tech I shook my head knowingly. A new quarterback with no experience to speak of and not much in the way of defense (or so I thought) seemed to portend for a less than stellar year. So, ahem, three months later we get to witness a powerhouse OSU team absolutely steamroll a good Wisconsin team, and do it with their *third-string quarterback* at the helm. What was surprising about that was that the so-called third-stringer played as well, if not better, than the two guys that were supposed to be better than him. When I sat down to watch the game this evening I had no expectations that the game would end in a 59-0 win for Ohio State. Wisconsins running game, on paper, looked like a mismatch for the Buckeyes defense. In the end I dont think the Badgers were able to manage anything close to one hundred yards rushing. For Wisconsin, it was game over. Now comes the wait to see if Ohio State earned enough respect to jump over one or two teams and land a spot in the college football final four. Is it possible that an undefeated, reigning national champion (who stayed undefeated by winning close games in an inferior league) still gets to the playoff? We know that Alabama and Oregon are shoo-ins, but for TCU and FSU its going to be a long, nervous night. Perhaps the longest night of all will be had by those on the final four selection committee, they have a lot of tough decisions to make. I just hope that Ohio States early loss to VaTech doesnt undo the Buckeyes chances in the mind of the voters. Lets hope that tomorrows announcement of the college football playoff teams doesnt mean game over for the Buckeyes.
