Well I wasnt going to post about it but i am continually answering messages about how my trip is and when will I be back? So be prepared to read! Lol My initial reason for my trip was to go with Sam to her cardiologist appointment.... Sam was born with Pulmonic Stenosis and has yearly check ups...Before I tell you about her condition Im going to tell you about this amazing young lady.... She has pushed the edge of the envelop with all she has every day of her life...We moved to Florida when she was 6 but I was happy because we left her doctor... While we were here in Florida she complained of chest pain so I took her to a doctor who was suppose to be the best in the area... Well he told us chest pain wasnt a symptom of the condition. I wasnt not impressed and took her back to her doctor in Ohio....well at 7 she had valvular plasti to correct the stenosis and the doctor said the Valve was 70% constricted and at this point she would have been experiencing chest pain!!!! At 9 during a typical school day Sami lost the ability to speak. At the time no one knew what was going on... The school called a code blue and made all the kids hide under their desk to protect Samis privacy until the ambulance got there... Well the one kid that peaked was her sister, yep, Tiff... Lol It was before we owned a cell phones and Tom and I were out and the school could not reach us but through perfect time of events (God always finds a way) they had gotten ahold of the doctor I worked for and it just so happened that as I was walking into the store his wife was walking out... She told me that Sam had been taken to the hospital but didnt know the details... Well you can imagine at that point Im in a bit of shock and just reacting... It was during winter and just then it decided to prove it!!! This was one of the proudest memories of my ex. We were stuck in traffic and he jumped out of the car and threw hes hands up to stop a semi so that I could cross traffic... We got to the hospital in time to take another ride in the ambulance with her to Tods. Her Nurse said she didnt shed a tear until she saw mama... Such a strong little girl, didnt have to be strong now cause mama was here! No one could tell us what was wrong and this was about the same time my dad had his stroke so you could imagine what was going through my head...she slowly gained her ability to speak and the thing she wanted to talk about was how HOTT the paramedics were... Lol Finally the neurologist came in to see us... A focal seizure! So again my baby has to go through a gamut of test...MRI, EEG and so one, but she is a trooper. The little girl in her room is scared and Sam turns her focus on reassuring her... An MRI can be scary for little ones. Sam tell her to just talk to Jesus he will be right there with you... Well they put her on medicine but knowing that the meds have extreme consequences we decide to believe that this was a freak thing and took her off the meds, thank God she never had another seizure ... Life goes well for Sam up until the summer of her senior year... During her yearly check up the test results dont look good to the doc and he tells her she will no longer be able to play basketball and will need to start heart meds and refers her to a top cardiologist at Shans in Gainesville. The appointment is a few months away so I make another appointment with her ohio doctor... Sam is devastated! Basketball has been her passion from the time she was in the 3rd grade. And at this point she has had several college offers and was looking forward to her college career... We see both doctors for a 2 and 3 opinion... Well it turned out that the first doctor had made a mistake in misdiagnosing her with cardiomyopathy... She is cleared to play her senior year... Not only is she happy but her teammates and coaches as well...Lol... Sam has always be a stand out but all you parents know what a senior year means to an athlete. Im going to brag here a minute but be completely straight up... Sam was that player that all the schools talked about even as a little girl...She had broke her hand in the 5 grade during softball season and before the next game all the area teams new about it. She had been seen by one of the coaches with a cast on... Lol... .. She would have random people shout out hello and I would ask who was that? She would shrug her shoulders and say I dont know I think they play for so and so . When we talked to coaches they would admittedly tell us their game plan was to shut Sam down... Sam wasnt offended it was an honor that she was so well respected... Her senior year she set the record for most points scored in a single game and she did it playing only 3 quarters, her free throw average was 93% and she was chosen for as 1st team guard for the state team! She was legit!!! Now I will tell you about her condition... Before the correction the blood flow to her lungs was constricted. This condition was suppose to make her tire easily and stunt her growth... She never showed any symptoms....Im not saying she didnt experience symptoms I think she knew she had to push herself and having 3 older sisters help... She was a little smaller then most kids her age but that didnt last... She is 59 now Because the corrective procedure was to tear the valve she now has regurgitation, which means that all the blood doesnt get pushed into the lungs but flows back into the heart. This is where pushing herself when she was young payed off... And why I feel justified in bragging on her... You see for an average person to run a mile is like running two for Sam. She has to work harder, push farther for the same results. And she had done this from the time she was 7 her dad use to have a problem just sitting next to her because you could feel the energy coming off of her... After her senior year we went for her yearly check up and seen yet another new doctor...Ugh!!!! Well her ejection fraction was a little low and they wanted to put her on meds again. At this point Im like Sam can we just call it a day as far as this basketball stuff is concerned? She had been offered a full scholarship but I had had enough and knowing how hard she has to work I talked her out of playing.... You see when you receive a scholarships the school owns you...my argument was that if you took the amount of time that you would be playing and practicing to work you could make more money then the scholarship was worth... Well let me tell you... Sam graduated with her AA when she was just 19 and had enough money to pay for a brand new fresh off the lot new Honda Civic! She has always been a conqueror and once again a challenge has been set before her! During her yearly visit this time she experiences a SVT and has to be rushed to the ER... So now she is facing cardiac ablation... We will see the cardiac electrophysiologist this Friday but are checking into get a second opinion ... Yes from her doc in ohio!!!! I hope you can see what a champion this kid is... Yes she is scared and wants her mommy but our faith is not shaken... Even Jesus asked his disciples to stay with him when he face his biggest trial.... I can only think that God is determined to show her that she is indestructible and that as my grandmother use to say... Stand before the devil and spit in his eye GO SAMI !!!
