Well, Ive been the proud recipient of a few strange dreams in my life, but I think the one I had last night takes the prize. This one involved me spending a weekend working at Western State Hospital, one of Virginias state psychiatric facilities. In my dream, the hospital was hosting a weekend of fun activities for its residents, including a play, a dinner, a dance party and a few other things, and I was staying in a dorm-like suite of rooms so I could provide staff support for the activities. During this fun-filled weekend, I had the following experiences: - For some reason, I decided to take my dog Andy (whos been in doggie heaven since the late 1990s) and had to figure out how to support the patients and staff with him on a leash; - On my first night, I discovered a luxurious suite of apartments on the top floor of the hospital reserved for the director of our department, and spent an hour cleaning the carpet after Andy did his business on it; - While grabbing a Coke Zero at the soda machine during the Saturday evening dance party, I happened to lock eyes with one of the patients, who followed me around for the rest of the weekend and tried to come home with me, thereby putting me in legal hot water because he had been involuntarily committed to treatment; - Just to add flavor to the evening, several of my college friends showed up in outlandish costumes; - And, to cap it all off, we had a snowstorm on dance party night, and while cleaning off my car (wearing a skirt and heels), I was robbed at gunpoint by a group of patients lead by a guy who who really just wanted my iPod. Once he obtained said iPod from the trunk of my car, he shot me with his CAP GUN at point-blank range and I had to get my iPod back with the help of a cousin of Tony Sopranos, who was also a hospital patient. Is it any wonder I sometimes wake up exhausted??
