Well. Thank you all for your prayers that I would have a safe trip south to my beach hideaway. Next time, pray more vigorously please. The first five minutes of the trip were lovely---when I stopped at a Pemex to gas up, some fisherman in a fierce and rusty truck pulling his boat decided he didnt like the design on my 1986 Mazda pick-up and tore out of the station, ripping the drivers door off---glass and metal everywhere. He took off--I chased on foot--he waved his fist in a loving salute and rattled away. I tried to get his license, but he apparently is one of those government officials who is not required to sport plates on his vehicle. I have to concede, however, that his artistic design has great merit. The door dangles at oblique angles, the glass has a diamond like clarity, and the overall abstract chaos clearly shows the influence of Dali, Picasso, Pollack and the Republican Congress. I have retreated to my apartment to pout while a door is found. Whenever I am rattled--literally--I escape into the escapist genre of scare books.....Koontz, King, George W. Bush, -- but this time I needed some rough stuff, so I am reading a history of the Medieval Popes in Rome. Scared witless. Those boys knew how to put some hurtin on anyone who pissed them off. Ah well....tomorrow is another day. I will take my coffee out on the balcony and watch the Mexican Military march by on parade. I will wave to them gaily and hope to raise their morale.
