Well after 2 months of non paid unemployment, and local tech companies being bad about getting back with me, Ive got a flight, studio at the Hilton, and a car rental paid for by Digital Brands in Gainesville Florida to go check out their office in the heart of downtown on Wednesday to see if Id be a good fit down there. Super stoked for the prospect of working at a start up of less than 15 people, those profit sharing checks would be way better than what I was use to, and the CEO was telling me they just shut down the office and pay everyone to take 10 days off around Christmas and a week for the 4th of July on top of the standard PTO you get. Free daily lunch from one of the many downtown restaurants and a stocked kitchen, mini arcade, paid gym membership or whatever monthly activities you want, office games like office chair volleyball, and all in all perks youd expect from a successful Internet based company. Its been almost a decade since I lived in Orlando Florida, and Gainesville seems more up my alley. Home to the Gators and Gatorade and the University of Florida they have a thriving downtown and tech hub, seems they are on track to be the Austin Texas or Portland Oregon of Florida with tons to do and a diverse population from the 3 universities and the sciene and tech facilities there. It would be sad to leave Virginia Beach and friends behind, but this might be a big enough opportunity I cant say no to.
