Well folks, further to my slightly despondent post last week, I wanted to say thankyou so much for your supportive feedback, it have me the motivation to hang in there... And I was rewarded today when I went up to the plot for the first time since then, and saw what I am SURE is a potato plant, poking up through the ground among the weeds. And one solitary runner bean plant is hanging on for dear life. There is hope yet. It lives!! Spurred on, I planted some young sweetcorn plants (and defended them with a cloche for now until they get too tall), re-netted and watered the growing pumpkins. And this little chap is still watching me from the frog pond. Your time of glory will come, my friend... When the slugs come for the treasure, you go get em!
