Well, its been a day. It was upper 40s low 50s when I went to bed. it was 34 when I lift for work at 8:15 and it was raining. It was 32 by the time I got to work at 8:45 and snow was joining the rain. by the time I went out to the car at 9:00 it was well below freezing and starting to snow big heavy wet globs of flakes. By the time I reached Girard at 9:30 we had an inch of snow. By the time noon hit, and I was back at Summit, it was 18ish, and white out conditions with heavy winds. The warm spell and rain caused the snow to melt, and the underside was pure ice. On top of that, was slush, and on top of that blowing snow that piled up to two feet at places. There was not a single road in the county that was not snow covered. Everywhere I went, people were off the road, in ditches, pulled over and in accidents. I saw so many people being pulled out by tow trucks. This is one of the worst winter in living memory. And while other days have been colder or snowier, today was the most dangerous for driving of the entire year. So I was doing Phramacy deliveries today. The Pharmacy car has the WORST tires I have ever had the displeasure of driving on. I have driven on flat tires, tires where the wire is showing, and tires that the tire shop said I would have been lucky not to have blown out in the next two hours... this is WORSE. The tread LOOKS good, but it is very smooth. Even when we dont have much snow, it had a really hard time. This car is 7 years old and has only 28,000 miles on it. My Manager and I believe they may be the original tires the manufacturer put on. it has sat 99% of its life. I kinda hate this car a lot. So, I was driving slow and careful all day, naturally. But, no matter how much trust I have in my own winter driving, I cant make that car safe on those roads. It takes a lot to freak me out when it comes to driving. I rarely mind snow and ice. Today, I wanted nothing more than to go home. In spite of my best efforts, the weather defeated me. I got very stuck in a customers drive way. I didnt want to go into the driveway, but the house was at the top of a blind hill, and I was very sure, if I didnt get a little off the road at least, I was going to cause an accident. I decided Id just go into the very end of the drive and walk up. While I stand by my thought it was safer, I couldnt get out of the drive way. Nothing I did got me out. It was very annoying. So finally after about 15 minutes of trying to get out, I gave up and called a tow truck. the fastest one had a 2 hour queue. So yeah... two hours... waiting... He pulled me out with ease. I knew he would. I just needed pulled out of the driveway. Finally out, I headed back to summit. I avoided the highway, because I was terrified Id end up in a wreck for sure. So I took the rout that would give me the least amount of hills. This took me to peach, of course. I could barely get up the hills. I passed at least 5 people stuck and unable to get up the hill. I ALMOST needed to call the tow truck again. Thankfully, I managed to get back to the store. However, my attempts to get free of the driveway and my forcing the car up the hill has visibly damaged the tires. I wonder what the boss will say? I dawdled in the store because I didnt want to drive anymore today. My car, while not having great tires, was MUCH better then that sorry excuse for a car. Im driving along I-90, semi wants to pass me, no prob, Im going slow, and suddenly there was a semi truck about 2 inches from my side mirror. I swirve and seconds later, there is a semi truck about 2 inches from my side mirror. I swirve again, and hit my breaks, and it nearly takes off my bumper as he comes into my lane and right onto the shoulder before he rights himself. That was a very close call. Guh. When I finally get home, there is a large tree branch that had fallen off the tree and was leaning against our house. We dont see any damage, but... TL;DR Winter sucks and bad tires make bad cars bad. Im going to bed... I am going to pray tomorrow is a better and safer day. Im in the van tomorrow. Poor Carla is in the Pharmacy car. Pray for her. She will need it. Goodnight all.
