Well, its finally happened. Alexei has decided he wants to start working seriously in ballet and has been bugging me non-stop for about 2 weeks to start giving him private lessons. So i finally broke down and did today. We found out the he can rotate his hips so much in 1st, that the back of his knees touch instead of side. he also worked on doing sharp tendu jetes to 35degrees with perfectly straight knees (which I now see they are slightly hyperextended). His demi-pointe position is unreal. So i guess it begins. He begged for another one tomorrow. he wants to work on rond de jambes and his passé position in pirouette. Pray for me. And its very sad to be jealous of your own childs feet! He has beautiful insteps and arch. I still have hope he will snap out of it and be a Dr or something other than the job uncertainty of this field. But who knows, he is only 6. But on the other hand, I knew I wanted to be a dancer at age 7. And I never once wavered from it. He has lots to work on… doing plies with proper alignment, flexibility, arms. But he has a nice jump and an easy way of moving and his musicality is unreal. That to me is his greatest gift. And his emotions with the music. I am a proud mama for the brilliant kid Ive been blessed with. I just dont want to every say that i pushed too hard, or even worse, why didnt I push more. Any advice? He is 6. I dont want to be one of those parents who think they have a child prodigy on my hands, but I do know he is somewhat gifted. I just want to balance it out and keep him well rounded in sports, tae kwon do, and whatever else he wants. He had me sit down with a calendar and make his schedule on the days he wants classes… ready for this… Mon 3:00-4:00; Tues 12:00-1:30 Wed regular class with Caroline, Fri 2:00-3:30, and Sat normal 10:00 class. I told him i felt it was too much. he is absolutely sure. Im not sure i wont be exhausted with this schedule. Yes, Danny Green I know you will say take him out and let him play football. But if this is really what he wants, I guess i have to support him the way you did me, even though you never wanted me to dance either.
