Well, its time to hit the road again. Heading to Guanjuato Mexico. This trip will be a bit different. Actually moving there for about 5 months. I weighed all of the options and as much as I want to move to Ecuador, I will be unable to get a car down there. You know how I am about having my own wheels. Looked at leasing options etc. and none of them seem to work. Plan is to drive to/through Mexico and park my butt in Guanjuato. From there, driving to Guatemala and Belize for fishing and diving is like a driver and a 9 iron away. Well, maybe a driver and a 3 wood. Clearly, I wont have my kayak on the roof because nothing would scream GRINGO more than that. However, I do have an inflatable that will fit quite nicely in my trunk:) Ideally, driving all the way to Ecuador would be the plan, but between the politics, fees and an impassable stretch in Panama called the Darien Gap between Panama and Columbia, that is not an option. Besides, you may remember Dermot Walsh, the Irishman that I met in Panama last year. Hes a good man, happens to live there and has for a year or so now. He tells me to, Come on down. If its alright for Dermot, it alright with me. My plan is to leave right after the holidays an hang out in the area for 5 or 6 months. Ive been trying to learn Spanish since the 7th grade. Time to try the total immersion method. I have applied for a few part time seasonal jobs both in Glacier National Park and Yellowstone to drive tour boats next summer so the time frame would seem to fit. Thats right, Id even get to wear one of those swell Captain Hats! Im not worried about scorpions, Montezumas revenge nor drug cartels. What I am worried about is spending one more day, growing old and siting on this freakin sofa with a remote control in my hand! Besides, I picked up some new camera lenses that have Central America written all over them. The way I figure it, Ill never be any younger than I am at this very moment, think about it!
