Well return to our regularly scheduled program right after this Rant from Rob. Ever since the incident in Ferguson, MO earlier this year, there have been many newspaper and online articles centering on the state of race relations in this country. With good reason considering this incident is about an unarmed black man who was gunned down by a white policeman. Having read quite a few of these articles I came across a phrase that I’d never heard before, “post-racial.” Post – a prefix word referring to a moment just after an action or event, i.e. post-game interview or post-election results. Racial – referring to an uneasy relationship between members of different races, cultures or ethnicities. The marriage of these two words leads one to believe that we are in a time after racial tension and unrest. In other words, racism is over, something else of which I and I assume the majority of U.S. citizens was not aware. With the ugliest scourge of mankind eradicated, where was the parade, the breaking news alerts, the NFL wearing chartreuse sweatbands to commemorate the most auspicious day in our nation’s history? It appears as if the old guard of the Grand Old Party and their loyal pundits are true believers. With Sen. McCain, Charles Krauthamer, Bill OReilly and the like speaking about this post-racial America in matter of fact tones usually reserved for yesterday’s sports scores. I guess the only explanation for this absurdity is that those who stand to gain from the pain of man’s inhumanity to man, constantly employ convoluted logic in order to contradict the existence of said inhumanity. And that is truly inhumane.
