Well, school starts here next Thursday Aug 15. My partner and I have been assigned to one of the elementary schools here to work on traffic flow and enforcement under a program called, "Get Our Children to School Safely”. There have been a couple of close calls with kids and cars over the last few years and hoping we might be able to change that. We have a 10 minute window to get 800 kids into the school and keep parents tempers to a minimum. We are also trying to convince more parents to walk or bike their kids to school. This is going to be interesting and a bit of a challenge too. We only have 2 weeks to smooth out the flow and then the enforcement part will kick in. This is the part where we learn that some of the parents can count to one with their fingers. So now we go from 1 day a week volunteers to 5 days, plus our regular patrol day and down town timed parking management. The good news is I still carry the distinction of Longmont’s ugliest Meter Maid and the bad news, no Harley yet.
