Well, thats that. Arwen (the van) is officially dead. The mechanic - TopicsExpress

Well, thats that. Arwen (the van) is officially dead. The mechanic spent more than I paid him for the down payment trying to fix her, and apparently, the only possibility is a replacement engine, which I cannot afford (and neither can he). I screamed, I bellowed, I pounded on the ground with my cane, because, frankly, I spent enough on the rental after two months for another down payment on a better car, because he kept telling me Just a few more days. PLEASE NOTE: I am NOT mad at the guy who sold me the car. I know all the steps he went through to try and fix it, but after the head gasket blew, he was just finding one damn thing after another. So, I kept extending the rental, thinking it would just be a few more days. F¢µk. Now what do I do? In better news, I found out how much I will be getting from SSDI, and it will make a substantial improvement in our standard of living. I was also told that I will be receiving the first payment in less than 100 days. I confess, though, I am not quite comfortable with accepting both the SSDI and the VA compensation, but the lady at SS said Why? You earned them both. What I do for transportation until then remains a question. To illustrate my case of yesterday of SS treating vets better than the VA, I just got word this week that theyre going to pay my emergency room bills from February 18th, when I had my first issue with the spiking blood pressure, and perhaps the first real evidence for the stroke. Thats SEVEN months. The SS can resolve a new claim from scratch in 3. Does anyone else see the irony here? I had been feeling SO good about the SSDI when I went to therapy, but as I said in group, its not real yet, so I cant quite grasp it. Then to find out about the car, and, well, that kicked me in the stomach again. After all the other medical and other crap thats hit us over the head in the last year, Im half surprised Tanya hasnt left because she couldnt deal with it. Since the rental car is almost exactly like the one we wanted to buy in February but couldnt get a loan for, Im going to ask them (and see if I get away with it) to count the two months rental as the down payment, and set up the payment plan.
