Well, the question, Whats for supper?, was almost answered by this little gal, who was lurking about the tomato patch before being discovered by Sophie, our turtle herding dog. Those of you who know me, and I mean REALLY know me, know that I have a long history with these prehistoric vagabonds! In my younger days,(I wont say, back when I was a kid) it would not be unusual to see me and a friend, or uncle, or cousin, out on the mighty Pawcatuck, in search of these. Of course, the average size that we would pull from the river was about 35 pounds, but there was one that weighed in at 65 pounds, and really did fill a wheelbarrow! Oh yes, I have tried these delicacies, and paid a terrible price...and even though Donna VanHorn was frantically digging up potatoes and other fine things to garnish this tasty reptile with, my heart softened, and I let my new found snapping turtle friend, go. ...If she returns and is thirty or more pounds heavier, then I may have to rethink my actions.
