Well, there are news reports in the media about a certain Goan guy who has been arrested for his anti-Modi remarks on a facebook forum. As usual, the English media has deliberately misrepresented the facts to paint a picture that this poor guy is being persecuted by the Goa govt. Nothing can be further than the truth. This man has been consistently posting disturbing messages and peddling lies on facebook. An individual, a private citizen had lodged a police complaint against him because he considered these posts disturbing communal harmony. The complaint was lodged quite some time ago and the law is now taking its normal course of action. The state is NOT involved at all in any way. Why is this being portrayed as a state v/s an individual issue anyway? This is an issue between two individuals. One individual peddled lies and indulged in fear mongering under the guise of Freedom of Expression, another, more socially responsible individual Atul Pai Kane, felt it was a violation of his civil rights and he exercised HIS freedom of expression by lodging a criminal complaint. He is fully within his rights to do so. This person is NOT being persecuted for his anti-Modi tweets, he is being persecuted for his communal statements. Sharing some of the tweets here. Readers can decide on their own if this kind of fear-mongering is justified.
