Well, this was an interesting weekend...*deeeep breath* The Lord - TopicsExpress

Well, this was an interesting weekend...*deeeep breath* The Lord DEFINATELY moves to protect us in mysterious ways. Start off with the time spent this week honouring Cpl. Cirillo and Warrant Vincent, including the Friday-night stand at the highway and the watch... Then I got to spend some good soul time standing watch with most excellent man and very good friend Jason Banfield at the cenotaph in Etobicoke. Then, turning my attention to my wife... Rita and I decided wed take the kids back to Niagara Falls (hotel had a hot tub). My guts didnt co-operate, so we stopped (found a PlayPlace for the kids, so everyone was happy). We THEN got on the wrong highway, but thought, Eh, we like Hamilton, and well go pay our respects to Cpl. Cirillo and his family again. Why not? As a result, we were at Barton and Parkdale (INSTEAD OF ON THE QEW!!) when the trucks alternator completely died (weird flickeries, then just goooone...) Imagine my surprise when Rita looks up and sees...a Ford dealership!! I have my doubts that many people would have stopped in Toronto, but IMMEDIATELY, two people stopped, one helping us with kid-wrangling while I pushed the truck three blocks to Eastgate Ford (see the pic with the cruisers - if its good enough for the local cops, its good enough for us...) and another young gent pulled over to prevent my imminent cardiac by helping to lend a hand pushing the final block. Youd think that was it, but... BUT WAIT. THERES MORE!!! While we were getting a quote for the alternator - not cheap, but in line with our expectations - the tech discovered a nail in our tire, saving us trouble down the road... So, we grabbed a rental (Enterprise was as good as their ads say, picking us up in RECORD time) and were off to Niagara. Uneventful rest of the trip, except for a nice beer from a lovely couple (who also live just up Keele from us, small world, but we know that one already) in the hot tub...and a nice relaxing weekend. On the way back, we stopped in to see the Argylls - they were drilling for Tuesdays funeral, which made me jump - I know riflefire when I hear it - and another round of wet eyes (AJ even added a little heart to his signature on a Canadian flag.) I have to say that weve learned to handle lifes little emergencies much better, and that we had a great time meeting good people along the way. Made sure to give them business cards, too. They deserve a hand back when they next need it most.
