Well, we didnt have a great morning today. The lumbar puncture - TopicsExpress

Well, we didnt have a great morning today. The lumbar puncture procedure proved to be unsuccessful this morning. The doctor performing the procedure tried to find the space between my vertebrae with his fingers. This was not a fun process because he really had to press deeply into my skin to find them. Once he thought he found them, he would shoot a numbing solution in the area and try to insert a 6 inch needle into the space. Unfortunately, he would get about 3 inches in there and hit the bone. This hurt something awful. After about 3 tries, the decision was made to stop an schedule me to see another dr, who would find the spaces via an x-ray machine to find the exact location to insert the needle. Bottom line, I went through a pretty painful procedure this morning, only to find out Ive got to stay a little longer and go through the process again, either tomorrow or Saturday. We will know today which day it will be. Thank you all for the prayers, and I humbly ask that they continue. The Lord provided me with a calm this morning that I have not had these past two days. That is a result of prayer, and I know this. Unfortunately, my larger body mass (the doctors nice way of saying that Im too dadgum fat) was the reason why todays procedure was unsuccessful. While prayer cant fix that overnight, its good to know that something can be done to pinpoint exactly where to stick that needle at the next appointment. Good thing about staying another day... I think Ill catch the Astros and Phillies tonight! :) Thank you all for everything! Derek
