Well what can you say about the AMAZING RAFT RACE today!!! In aid of Prostate Cancer organised by Stan THE man!!! So here how it went. Saturday 19th July 2013 11.30 Start Rumleigh Quay ends Calstock Quay First of all the rafts were all inventive and very funny. Each had a plastic chair a flag and a cuddly toy!! of course!!! The ferry came up from Clsatock and picked Devone people up to go to Calstock and donated the charge to the cause. What a star!! Thanks to the ferry man. So there we were at the start and straight away Loryn Leriihan falls in off her rather lush bed style raft.....oooo my legs grazed she whines over and over!! We get it Loryn..... you sank :) But trooper as she is she turned her raft upside down and went in. Go Girl we yell. Others get in and believe it or not FLOAT....all that is except Paul Carter who no matter how hard he tries his raft flips. Hes the first NO STARTER....the shame;))))) So the race starts..... DANNY BRAGGS straight away is off the starting block ...powering down ..a man with a mission and a dry suit so when we talk sweat we mean SWEAT BOY..! He is followed by the first of two amazing bath tub rafts - this first one captained by CHRIS SOUTHCOTT one of the three CORNWALL rafts and boy can that man paddle with his hands.....!!! a wooden paddle might have taken the strain but who knows!!:). JOE MARKS - in his very sleek catamaran follows hard behind- it has already split in two in the trails...but he looks cool and in charge but speed!!! questionable?.....Then DEAN THORN in his wonderful pirate raft follows - another Cornish Raft - its good looking and made well but even though it should fly it does not seem to go THAT fast.....BEN HARRIS is seen splattering behind in his words his power rocket ummm.. maybe a slight exzaggeration - but he offers a close race to Deans pirate raft.. Bens boat seems low in the water and his legs dangle in the water but sheer determination gets him down the course. The first of the girls is then in the scene KAY VOWDEN..all the way from Helston - she even has greenery on her raft - shes is steady and determined but her seat comes unstuck and her chances of winning with it! . Meanwhile plodding but not forgotten is ANG VENNIG on her almost pontoon style raft. Its decorated, like house and gardens- is steady but needs some serious steering. Ang is feeling the pain but steels on. Next to her SHELLEY PERKINS - the star of a girl who stepped in at the last minute to take a poorly persons place is in the other bath tub. Its hard and tough to steer but she does it with good grace and grit- but with all credit to the girls they took no help and made the distance NOT I might add like some of those boys who took - yes I shall say it A TOW!!!!! Meanwhile a long way back and we are talking a LONG WAY is JEFFERY CHURCHILL plodding along as the last in but he just kept going...just very slowly... Well done to you all a fantastic effort and great sportsmanship. So the official placings were : 1: Danny Braggs 2: Chris Southcott 3: Joe Marks 4: Dean Bella Thorne 5: Ben Calvin Harris 6: Kay Vowden 7: Ang Venning 8: Shelley Perkens 9: Jeffery Churchill one non starter Paul Carter ohh! and the 3 rafts from Calstock that tried to get there but somehow did not but thanks to them anyway..and we enjoyed seeing them waiting for us all. So far the official money raised for PROSTATE CANCER is £1400.00 with more to come . Well done to all the people who helped ---- the rescue teams ---the boats ---and all who came and supported it and everyone who sponsored someone or chucked a few quid in the buckets...a HUGE BIG THANK YOU. Plus well done STAN VENNING for getting the energy and will to organise it all. THANK YOU ONE AND ALL. LOOK OUT NEXT YEAR!!!
