Welterweights take center stage at Saturday’s UFC 171 event, and a new champion will be crowned in the first 170-pound title fight in the post-Georges St-Pierre era.Here’s the essential information for this weekend’s big pay-per-view card.UFC 171 START TIME: UFC 171 takes place Saturday at Dallas’ American Airlines Center. The event kicks off with four prelims on UFC Fight Pass at 6 p.m. ET (3 p.m. PT), followed by four more prelims on FOX Sports 2 (8 p.m. ET) and then the five-fight main card on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET.UFC 171 BACKGROUND: With long-reigning St-Pierre taking a hiatus with no planned return date, the UFC’s welterweight division will have a new champion for the first time since 2008. UFC 171′s headliner will award the vacant title to either Johny Hendricks (15-2 MMA, 10-2 UFC) or Robbie Lawler (22-9 MMA, 7-3 UFC). Additionally, the next title challenger could be determined with the co-headliner of Carlos Condit (29-7 MMA, 6-3 UFC) vs. Tyron Woodley (12-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC). In all, UFC 171′s 12-bout lineup includes five 170-pound contests. Also on the main card are welterweights Jake Shields (29-6-1 MMA, 4-2 UFC) vs. Hector Lombard (33-4-1 MMA, 2-2 UFC), and closing out the prelims are 170-pounders Rick Story (16-7 MMA, 9-5 UFC) vs. Kelvin Gastelum (7-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC).UFC 171 ON-SITE REPORTERS: MMAjunkie lead reporter John Morgan (@MMAjunkieJohn) and veteran staff writer Steven Marrocco (@MMAjunkieSteven) will be on site in Dallas, as will videographer Rick Lee (@RickJLee). The workouts take place in the Lone Star Room at Gilley’s Dallas, and the event features Diego Sanchez, Myles Jury, Shields, Lombard, Will Campuzano and Sean Spencer. (The co-headliners take part in a Thursday “Ultimate Media Day” that’s closed to fans.) Wednesday’s workouts begin at 12:30 p.m. CT.UFC 171 WEIGH-INS FRIDAY: Friday’s UFC 171 fighter weigh-ins take place at South Side Ballroom at Gilley’s Dallas.
