Went to see Son of God today, now I feel like I can speak on it - TopicsExpress

Went to see Son of God today, now I feel like I can speak on it without reservations. I encourage people to go see it, but I do have some disclaimers. In Rev. 22:18-19, John (who the movie claims to be telling the story) says, I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book, and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book. Not to go into all the details, but much was added/taken away from the biblical recording of the life of Christ on earth in the 4 Gospels. Perhaps the part that concerns me the most was the limited Omniscience of Jesus portrayed in the movie. This basically means that Jesus deity was limited on earth (a heresy the Church has dealt with throughout the ages). In the movie, it is revealed to Jesus at the Last supper that he will be crucified and that Judas would betray him. The big problem here is that Jesus had revealed to His disciples that He had come TO be crucified a few times earlier in his ministry. Also, after Judas leaves the Last Supper, identified as the betrayor, Peter embraces Jesus and claims he would never betray him and during the hug, it appears Peters betrayal is revealed to Jesus and he tells Peter. The movie also does not follow the chronology of Jesus life according to Scripture. There are numerous other issues, just glad that the Atoning work of Christ in the crucifixion and resurrection is handled pretty well. The doctrinal, chronological, adding to/taking away elements not found in Scripture may not be a big deal to some, but we have to ask what Gods word says about this. We really have to be careful how we discuss the movie. It does beautifully share the purpose of Jesus, the salvation we find ONLY through him. But, when you disobey Scripture, mess with the deity of Jesus, i feel you have huge problems and some splaining to do as a movie writer/director...just as a minister of God will be held accountable for not accurately handling the word of God. My two cents worth!
