The song Julud is dedicated to Aziza’s mother, and is possibly the most emblematic song on the album combining intimate and stark desert poetry with an unyielding faith in the Saharawi political struggle. Aziza Brahim is a contemporary sonic poet and a prominent spokesperson for the Saharawi people and their ongoing struggle for recognition and justice. Her new album Soutak (“Your Voice”), her first for the Glitterbeat label, deftly focuses on her majestic voice and the poetic critique of her lyrics. Out on February 7th, 2014!
