Were getting complacent. Much too complacent. On tonights flight from SAN to ABQ I noticed two passengers debarking the aircraft prior to take off. We were all seated, ready to go, there in San Diego and this older couple simply got up and off the plane. He apparently had food poisoning and didnt think hed be able to endure the flight stuck in his seat. So, off they went. And their checked baggage? It stayed. It stayed aboard our flight. This, while they stayed on the ground. Yup, it was an older white couple and they looked not at all threatening. And all the bags loaded aboard made it through the TSA security checks. Yesseriee. They did. The Southwest Airlines Operations agent assured me of this. She said I had nothing to worry about. Easy for her to say as her butt remained safely on the ground. Obviously, I made it through the flight and so to did everyone else. At some point however, some bright lads will figure out this routine and take advantage of it. And, no, I really have NO confidence in the TSAs ability to detect anything with any degree of accuracy. Even their own tests of their own security set up have consistently failed. Were getting far too complacent.
