Were you aware the Madison County Board recently voted to borrow $18 million dollars for a renovation of the county jail? The board used a method called a backdoor referendum to pass this tax increase. We think folks should have a voice at the ballot box. AFP- Illinois is working on a petition drive with a group of Madison County taxpayers to collect signatures to give voters a voice on this issue. The effort will require the collection of over 17,000 signatures of Madison County registered voters in 30 days. This is a huge undertaking but, with enough help and working in collaboration, we believe that we can send a message that taxpayers are fed up with borrowing on the future of our children.
