Western Australia --- Severe Weather Warning -- UPDATE Severe Weather Warning for damaging winds for people in the South West and South Coastal forecast districts Issued at 4:10 am WST on Thursday 26 September 2013. For people in parts of WA south of a line from Windy Harbour to Mount Barker to Bremer Bay. This includes people in or near Albany. Weather Situation A strong cold front will move across the western south coast on Thursday morning. The weather system is likely to cause DAMAGING WINDS to 100 kilometres per hour that could result in DAMAGE TO HOMES AND PROPERTY. DAMAGING WINDS are likely to develop after 6am Thursday, before easing after midday Thursday. This is typical weather for this time of the year but winds may cause damage to property and make road conditions hazardous. This cold front is not as strong as the cold fronts that have moved through the area over the past few days. The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should: If outside find safe shelter away from trees, power lines, storm water drains and streams. Close your curtains and blinds, and stay inside away from windows. Unplug electrical appliances and do not use land line telephones if there is lightning. If boating, swimming or surfing leave the water. Be alert and watch for hazards on the road such as fallen power lines and loose debris. If your home or property has significant damage, like a badly damaged roof or flooding, call the SES on 132 500. The next warning will be issued by 11:00 am WST Thursday.
