Weston Youth Services is getting ready to get back-to-school! We are pleased to offer a variety of programs for children of all ages, and their families. As you begin to plan your children’s fall activities, don’t forget to check out all our amazing after-school offerings for students in Grades K-5. We’ve got clay sculpting and cartooning for your budding artists, karate and jazz/hip hop for your movers and shakers, and science and Engineering with Legos for your little explorers. Program dates and descriptions are now available on our website and registration begins on Tuesday, September 3rd! This year we are excited to announce that we’ve got more for your middle school students! In addition to our popular Sitter Safety class, where students will learn the skills necessary to become a responsible babysitter, we are also introducing Design Studio, a continuation of the very popular craft and create program that many students participated in at Weston Intermediate School. More information about these programs is available on our website and registration opens on Tuesday, September 10th. And if your high school student is driving you crazy about driving, he/she can participate in the All-Star Driver’s Education program held at Weston High School. Seven sessions, including afternoon and evening programs, will be offered during the academic year. We also have plenty for parents! We are continuing our Tackling the Tough Stuff series to help parents deal with and discuss the issues without single or simple solutions. Each month we will focus on a particular theme and host several interactive sessions co-led by guest speakers to highlight social, psychological, physical, and educational information and issues. Our focus for September is Routines, Rules, and Roles. Shifting from summer into school mode can be challenging for children and parents alike; a new school year brings lots of new and sometimes lots of nerves! Join us on Thursday, September 19th from 12-1:30 pm (a light lunch will be provided!) at the Weston Public Library for a discussion on how to help ensure a smooth transition for you and your child. And this year we are also introducing some new and exciting programs including a Parenting Book Club to learn how peers and professionals experience the success and struggles of parenting, and share some literacy and laughter. We’ll also be hosting Date and Discussion Nights so you can enjoy some appetizers and advice with your spouse or partner!
