His family has been told that there is nothing more that can be done and that his little body doesnt have the strength to fight this battle any longer... He is now at home with Hospice. Mitchells disease has progressed very quickly and aggressively. The drug hes been taking since June 25th was a bit rougher in terms of side effects; although it did nothing to stop progression. It did however allow us able to enjoy some quality time over the summer at the lake with family and friends, the Double JJ resort with Camp Casey and a nice trip last week to Chicago. But we could tell he wasn’t feeling well and hiding his pain most days. He had a pretty rough night on Monday so off to emergency on Tuesday morning to get a CT scan. He was admitted that afternoon and the results of the CT showed a very large new tumor wrapping around his liver and pinching off his pancreas causing great pain (pancreatitis) plus compromised kidney function. After some very difficult discussions with Dr. Yanik and Mody, Mitchell is simply too fragile to endure more treatment. At this point it would do more harm than good, hes been through too much, there is no cure for his disease and he doesnt have the strength to fight this battle any longer. He is home on hospice to manage his pain and ensure hes comfortable. Seeing him in so much pain is torture and living every parent’s nightmare unimaginable. Please know that we appreciate all the support over these last two plus years but right now we need some time to gather our remaining strength to make every minute count for his sake and Lena’s.
