Weve started a series in the book of Hebrews on Sunday nights. Heres a review of what we learned last time: REVIEW – HEBREWS IN GENERAL 1. Anonymous 2. A letter and a sermon (my word of exhortation) 13:22 3. Written probably mid-60s to Jewish Christians in Rome 4. Recipients seem to be discouraged. Facing persecution. Some have returned to Judaism. 5. The solution – Jesus is better – “The Jesus Supremacy” REVIEW OF 1:1-5 1. In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways a. God speaks b. he spoke in the past through prophets in all sorts of different ways 2. but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son – in Jesus we have the complete message 3. Seven statements about the Son – his person, work and status a. heir of all things, through whom he created the universe – The Son is the creator and therefore will inherit all things b. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory – the light that comes from a light c. the exact representation of his being – the very image of the invisible God d. sustaining all things – all things are moving towards the glory of the Lord e. provided purification for sins – something the sacrificial system could not do f. he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high – to sit means to be finished; the right hand is the place of authority g. superior – to the angels
