Whanau, its getting close to Christmas....ever since my Mum died it has never been the same. As a mother myself, I try to carry on the traditional Christmas get-together, to no avail. These days, family prefer to have their own Christmas and then there are those who live afar and cant be home for Christmas. It is sad to accept that this is how it is now. This Christmas I am going to celebrate it the way Ive always been taught by my mother, and of course, the focus is on the Coming of Christ as we approach Advent. As my own children go about their own lives, they too, celebrate their own Christmas which took me a long time to accept - when my Mum was alive, we were always where she was - that has also changed. As we near Christmas I pray that all our whanau, whether they be at home or overseas, will love one another, forgive one another, and pass down to their tamariki the true meaning of Christmas. I pray the Lord will embrace those families who are living in poverty and especially those who are worse off because of Paula Bennetts law changes in terms of beneficiaries. Life is too short to hold grudges, to be nasty, to be unkind - as we approach Christmas, allow us to see Christ in every face.
