What Is The Name Of The Vice-President Of Nigeria? – Christianah Yomi “Who is the vice-president of Nigeria?” The man sitting in front of me asked in a voice that would put Jarule to shame. I had woken up this morning with a premonition that my interview would go south, but I didn’t think my downfall would be this question. Five years of pharmacy school had not prepared me for this either. It was like asking me the name of Barack Obama’s mother-in-law’s cousin’s sister’s first child. I have always hated current affairs and it’s the fault of Mr Ambrose, my social studies teacher, who would insert his fat finger into his equally large nostrils, and after searching all the corners would touch my hair with the same finger. I avoided all his classes since then and now I’m having lunch with nemesis. Don’t let your mind stray, Isabelle. I decided to sift through my elephant memory for the vice-president’s name. It must be hiding somewhere. Something tells me it rhymes with the famous Brazilian dance, Samba? Or is it Sambi? Sambisa? The other interviewer cleared his throat and I knew it was a subtle signal to let me know I am wasting their time. I looked at him from the corner of my right eye and felt like asking, “Why are you looking at me like that? Do you know the answer? I closed my eyes and decided to try some form of meditation perhaps it was hiding in the crevices of my mind and I couldn’t reach it. The word ‘Nomad’ slipped into my consciousness. Is it Nomad Samba? Nomadi Sambi? “Young lady, are you telling me you don’t know the name of your vice-president?” I can readily recite the name of the original owner of the Brazilian hair beautifully gracing my head because that’s relevant to my existence, but not this one. After what seemed like eternity, I sat straight in my chair and stared into the eyes of the man in front of me and decided to give him the most reasonable name in my head. “Anomaly Sambo, sir” I guess you can tell how the rest of the interview went. N.B I still don’t know the answer. Please, be merciful and help out.
