What I’m about to tell you isn’t easy. It’s not a one-stop - TopicsExpress

What I’m about to tell you isn’t easy. It’s not a one-stop shop. You’re not going to hear this and then think, “Oh, I get it. I’ll just stop that and everything will be okay.” What I’m about to tell you is the simplest thing in the world for me to say, and agreeing with it will be a no-brainer for you, but actually doing it is a whole different problem altogether. This is not going to be new information, and as you move through your life, you’ll get better at it, little by little, but it’s not a switch you can simply turn off. I’m not there yet myself, and I’m the one trying to tell you about it. The thing is, if you could simply stop doing this one thing, your life would be so much better immediately. If you could flip the switch on this problem area we all have, your heart would be more carefree and you would be crushing your life tomorrow. So, what is it? What is this thing that we can’t just stop, but is stopping us from growing? Comparison. Comparison is kryptonite. Comparison is the thing that is taking you out. You compare your life to other people’s lives. That’s it. You look around you at the greener grass and you want to change lawns. You want their dating relationship, their marriage, their perfect kids, their Christmas card, their salary, their house, their clothes, the body their clothes are on, their talents, their charm and their reputation as a result of all that talent and charm. You look at your life and hate it. Then you look at their lives and hate yours some more. When Jesus told Peter how he would die as an old man, Peter looked back at the Apostle John and said, “What about him?” That’s our question. “What about him?” “what about her?” Jesus said, “What’s it to you?” I love that Jesus allowed Peter to have his comparison question, but then did what He wanted to anyway. I want Jesus to hear my honest thoughts and I want Him to be able to be honest back to me. What if we gave Jesus the right to say “what’s it to you?” when we look around at the other lives around us? What if, step-by-step, you started to grow in letting Jesus call the shots of your life? What if, step-by-step, you grew in shutting down and turning off your comparison?
