What a crazy day yesterday in Boston. Got the systems installed, - TopicsExpress

What a crazy day yesterday in Boston. Got the systems installed, and operational ... at least our part. Customer couldnt figure out how to set up their switch and wound up arguing with me over why their config didnt work. I did not push them hard on this, but wanted to get this to an operational state, so I proposed an alternative config that worked, though we are still seeing issues with packet loss. Will try to fix that later. But they wasted all my time with that ... from 1-5pm, so I didnt get to work on the real end-users bits. Which means I have to push this out to next week. Annoying. But I can live with this. But the crazy part comes in a few parts. First, the GPS didnt. Well, its ARM processor is simply not fast enough to process information, draw a screen, and execute output sound processing (text to voice). It lags. Which meant it sent me on I93 north, when it couldnt update the screen fast enough to show me the exit it wanted me to get off at. Ugh. Going from tight timing to likely being late. On the drive from the site back to Logan airport, around Charles St., I was at a stop light. There was no left turn there, and I was going straight. The car to my immediate right decided, without looking, to make a left ... right into my right front quarter panel and bumper. Pushed my car a bit to the left, and her driver side window shattered, like in the movies. Maybe 3-4 mph collision. No airbags. Just metal on plastic and metal. For the record, this is my first accident (or maybe the first I remember? Head trauma perhaps? I dunno) I was worried before about being late for the flight, and this sealed it I thought. Put it out of my head and made sure the other driver and her passenger were ok. She was shaken up, he was ok ... smiling actually. They were very apologetic. I didnt see her hit her head or anything like that, and she was coherent when speaking. The passenger took over driving later though. Did the information exchange, and off they went. I spoke with the MA police, and have to file a report online. Brought the car back to enterprise. Here is the good part. I elect LDW or CDW (different names depending upon state) all the time. You can call them up and tell them the car is a smoking hole in the ground and walk away. Ive been doing this for 20+ years renting cars. Never, ever needed it. Until yesterday. I like Enterprise. These guys do a great job on customer service in the first place. I was checked in, they saw the damage, and still were able to process everything quickly. Gonna keep giving them my business. And will elect LDW/CDW every time. Ok, I get to the airport. This is my first time flying JetBlue. Vipin and Russell fly it a bit, they had a good rate to Detroit. Why not. Plane is 1.5 hours late. I can live with that. As long as I can get home so I can take the daughter and wife to Michaelas swim meet. Well, thats a whole other story ... but I wont recount that now. Ive brought a change of clothes with me, and changed. Get through the TSA, and over to the gate. I realize that I have not eaten since 6:15am and its 6:30pm now. Ok, find someplace with ok food. Wolfgang Puck is ok food, right? So I select a sandwich, mango juice and some water. Walk over to my gate. Take a bite of the sandwich. There is an episode of Better off Ted (a now defunct comedy series) where they have a food taster being asked what the experience is tasting something that theyve developed. His response is something like despair . You can see the relevant clip here: youtu.be/ezEMnzmDYZU The point is, that sandwich ... was just like that. There I am eating this ... anguished ... turkey sub. I tossed it. It was horrible. Went back, grabbed a banana and some other bits and waited. Happily the plane was nice. Seats were comfy. Far ... far better than cattle class on Delta. Got to Detroit, waited an hour for checked luggage (they frown on you bringing tools like screwdrivers in carry on). Drove home, took a shower and went to bed. Yeah that was an interesting day. Id like to have ... well ... less interesting days going forward. And Im gonna be back in Boston in a few weeks, will need to spend more time there. Visit with Terry Sullivan and Alan Sullivan if possible. Thinking on how I can try to make the person whom had an issue with the network setup win without alienating them. And work on sales at another customer down town. But no more car accidents or anguished sandwiches please ...
