What a day. I only cried 4 times. There were people there I had not seen in years. Old friends who drove 5.5 hours from Oklahoma to see us. Friends from our Taekwondo days. Friends from Cindys work came out enmass. In fact, the entire department came out. Old friends from Shackleford Vet clinic came by. Most of Station 3 of the Pulaski County Fire department came out. Friends who drove from Atkins who liked Mark and Steven came out. Relatives from Conway, and you know who you are, looked good and came out. The police chief from Jonesboro came out. Customers of Green Thumb came by. When the service started the minister, Rev. Greg Schick of St. James Methodist Church had the crowd rolling in the floor with antics that Steven pulled. There was not a dry eye in the house. The only time I really cried was when the whole congregation sung Amazing Grace. It is amazing how much a song can be butchered by out of tune singers, but it was sung perfectly with love and compassion. Then the fire department gave the final ringing of the bell, 3 times, saying the day is done. Once again very moving when the flag from the casket was folded and presented to both Cindy and I. We then had the procession come by for one last viewing and to say their good byes and gave best wishes. We took the casket to the hearse where the chilly air tore through the crowd. I took this as an omen that Steven went to a very cool place, not where it is HOT! The final procession was preceded by a large contingent of Pulaski County Sherriffs who gave us a full lights and sirens escort to the cemetery. Steven would have liked this. He was into lights and sirens!!! I know this is a long post but it is my way of coping with a loss. If you read this, give your child or significant other a big hug and tell them you love them. You will not be sorry. Im home now with Cindy in front of a romantic fire in the fireplace. The relatives from Jacksonville, my daughter and Joey, and my sister and her husband have been fantastic. I could not have done this by myself. I appreciate everyone who helped immensely and want to share my love and respect for your help at this time. I love you all....
