What a day this has been! Was thankful to hear the sermon on Being Beloved from our intern,Regina Jemison, and it was a joy to celebrate communion, sharing leadership with Regina and Emily Burrell Nietering. After choir practice, I thought Id have some lunch, go to the gym, and relax. But as I was finishing lunch, I got a phone call from one of the leaders of the congregation who will be worshiping at Littlefield in the afternoon, beginning today. They arrived to see steamy water gushing from one of the radiators in the foyer. When I got back to church, a crew of their young men were busy catching water and mopping and dumping water out in the yard. Numerous phone calls had to be made to get the heating contractor there and ask some volunteers to come in an help mop up the mess in the foyer and in downstairs. In the midst of all this, I (Fran) was apologizing to our new friends, and one of them really ministered to me, assuring me that he trusted God would bring something good out of all of this. Later, while the heating guy was working, I decided Id go into the sanctuary. I was sitting and meditating, not understanding much (as it was in Spanish) but knowing they were about to celebrate communion. Jonathon invited me to participate and went forward with me to receive and translated the whole lengthy communion liturgy. After communion, there was joyful singing. At one point something happened that was a sustained, free style of singing that seemed like the angels were singing. It was a privilege to worship with some of our brothers and sisters in Christ. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope of your calling, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all... - Ephesians 4:4-5
