What a great day on the start of this Lenten journey! Paul and I - TopicsExpress

What a great day on the start of this Lenten journey! Paul and I got up early to run some errands. We even had a chance to go to our favorite bird store to pick up some bird food and supplies. The owner (who celebrated her stores 35th anniversary) is an incredible bird expert with her PhD from Cornell. Every time we go there, she spends A LOT of time talking to us. Im sure she knows that were queer, and I suspect she may be as well. This afternoon we received the text theyre here from our best friends who welcomed into the world their twins, Austin & Madison. I think Paul and I are just as excited as they are. Its so wonderful to share in lifes miracles and joys with friends and family. This evening Dignity Washington & St. Margarets Episcopal Church, Washington celebrated an ecumenical Ash Wednesday liturgy, as we both do every year. I truly embrace such opportunities to come together and break bread. Both of our inclusive communities are blessed with great faith and leadership. It is my sincere hope that the RCC will one day adopt our example which is nothing extraordinary, if you consider that were simply following the examples and instructions of Jesus. After mass, one of St. Margarets lay ministers and I were purifying the sacramental vessels. She too appreciates the ecumenicalism of both our communities. She told me that apart from Dignity/Washington, shes only been to Catholic mass once...for a dear friends funeral. She was shocked when the celebrant announced from the altar, If youre not Catholic, you cannot receive communion. I am thankful that Dignity/Washington recognizes the importance of inviting ALL to the Table of Jesus. Paul made us a nice, simple pasta supper. Im looking forward to relaxing, and watching a movie together before bed. Tomorrow morning I check into the hospital at 9:30am to prepare for spinal surgery. Thank you for all the well wishes and those forthcoming. Im looking forward to getting well and getting a grasp back on life. Hope everyone has a great evening. Remember to appreciate and remember the simple joys in life. Lifes too great and too short not too! XOXO
