What a stressful weekend. On Saturday, I had to measure all of - TopicsExpress

What a stressful weekend. On Saturday, I had to measure all of Momma Calabreses furniture. She will be moving to an assisted living facility in Hamden. It is absolutely gorgeous inside and out. But she is a woman that hates any change so we were keeping it from her as long as we could. All people who know her believe as we do that she needs to be in an assisted living facility. It is time. So I had to do the measuring on the sly. I felt so bad and somewhat evil but I had a job to do. An important job. This morning Mike and I visited the place and measured every wall in her new apartment. I marked where every switch was, notated what electrical plug they controlled, marked every cable TV outlet and every electrical and telephone outlet. It was a lot of work but it looks like only 50% (if that) of what she owns will fit. So planning ahead is mandatory. I will make a to-scale floor plan so we can place furniture and plan what is going INTO the apartment and what will go into storage. But everything she owns is the largest that it can be. There is nothing that is small. The bed is a queen size. The TV module is 10 feet long! The TV itself is 47 in wide and 31 in tall. Her china cabinet is 5 ft long. You get the picture. Downsizing is not going to be easy especially when a living room will be only 10 x 14. Today at 2:30 p.m., while we were there for our Sunday Macaroni dinner, Pete, her eldest son, called and broke the news to her. My Lord, this tiny petite delicate woman became a full-blown HARPY! The foul language put curl in my otherwise straight hair. My ears are still burning. She wont move to Hamden because she doesnt like Hamden. She wont eat in the cafeteria because she doesnt like their food. Now, mind you, she has never LIVED in Hamden nor has she ever been there to TRY the food. Every excuse is being tried. It was tempting to abandon the move-ship and back away with our arms in the air but that would be disastrous. The ship has set sail and we have to continue on. Thursday the 16th is MtM-Day (move-the-mom day). Brother Peter is coming up on the 14th to help with the move. He was intelligent to think ahead and book a hotel. I dont think he and his wonderful wife would survive sleeping in the same apartment as mom. Both Mike and Peter know this is going to be very difficult. Please pray for our family. We will need extra angels to help us with the stress. We will need their strength not to strangle her to unconsciousness.
